motherboard components typically "stop working" after a reformat of windows because the drivers have not been installed. the kinds of items this includes are:
- USB (the USB Root Hub)
- Motherboard chipset
- RAID (you may need a floppy drive for these drivers)
- video (maybe, if your video is built in to the motherboard)
your computer or motherboard came with a cd/dvd with the drivers for your motherboard which contains the components listed above. it's sometimes labelled "drivers" with the computer mfr's name on it and sometimes labelled "mainboard" or "motherboard" or it just has a big model number listed on it and lots of color.
you need to find that media and install it.
If you don't have the media, find out what make and model are silk-screened on the motherboard and look it up on the drivers downloads section of the motherboard mfr's web site
if it's a major computer mfr like dell, gateway, hp, etc, then go to the drivers downloads section of the mfr's web site.
