what this script is good and not good for

use for:

  • HTML pages
  • XHTML pages
  • pages with straight DHTML are OK!
  • HTML/XHTML pages that use JQuery/YUI/jsext/tibco or other javascript framework

don't use for:

  • not good if you use a menu regeneration script
  • php/asp/asp.net/perl/ruby/jsp/python or other server side scripting pages
  • CMS ("Site Builder") like weebly, yola, joomla, drupal, etc.
  • blogs

(it will always show the current date due to the nature of the menu/page generation is on-the-fly. so in that case, this script won't vbe for you.)

code example:

you can use any tags you want instad of the div tag I have listed. it can be a span, which does not produce line breaks.

<div style="text-align: right; vertical-align: bottom; font-family: Verdana,Arial,sans-serif;" id="lm"></div>
<script type="text/javascript" src="/last-modified.js">
putLastModifiedToId('lm');
</script>
